Hallstatt Culture
In spite of the destructions at the end of the Bronze Age the settlement continued to exist during the early Iron Age. In the eighties and nineties of the last century houses dug into the ground up to a depth of 90cm were excavated. The so called bowl with bosses, a ceramic imitation of an Assyrian metal vessel is an extraordinary example of the ceramics of that time. A small bowl with a red meander decoration was found in the same pit. Imitations of bronze ribbed buckets made of ceramics have been unearthed. Remains from the Hallstatt culture can be found in the whole area of the former Late Bronze Age fortification.
We also know several graves in Mannersdorf. In one of these graves a big vessel with a conical neck and a cup at its bottom was excavated. The other grave goods, two big cups, a goblet and several bowls were also in this grave. The ashes of the dead had been put into bowl with black and red decoration.
La Tène
In the area of the Bronze Age settlement there are only a few finds of the younger Iron Age. Most of them date to the last centuries B. C. The remains of a hut containing a loom and loom weights were situated slightly beneath the crest of the rampart and proves that the rampart was not used for fortification in those days. Pottery loom weights and the fragment of a blue glass bracelet with yellow inlays have also been found.
North of Grub construction works presumably destroyed a kiln of the younger Iron Age. A ceramic bottle and many potsherds have been collected but there was no professional rescue excavation. Among the displayed finds from the younger Iron Age is a big pot from a grave found near Dürnkrut being slightly older than the objects from Stillfried.
Interesting remains from a La Tène settlement could be documented during rescue excavations between Mannersdorf and Angern conducted by the Natural History Museum Vienna. Several houses partly dug into the ground were excavated. In the south of this settlement painted La Tène pottery was found when new houses were built.
